Clay refractory brick is a widely used refractory material. Its types and properties can be classified according to composition, application and shape. The main classifications and characteristics are as follows:

I. Classified by Composition and Performance

Ordinary clay refractory brick

The content of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) is usually between 42% and 48%, with a refractoriness of 1580℃ to 1750℃, suitable for general industrial furnaces and kilns.

Weakly acidic, with strong resistance to erosion by acidic molten slag.

High-alumina clay brick

The Al₂O₃ content is increased by adjusting the formula to improve high temperature resistance, making it suitable for higher temperature environments.

Thermal shock resistant clay brick

The formula is optimized to improve resistance to sudden temperature changes, suitable for furnaces and kilns with frequent startup and shutdown.

II. Classified by Shape and Application

Standard brick (standard refractory brick)

General-purpose with uniform dimensions, widely used for furnace wall masonry.

Knife brick (Model T-38 brick)

Special-shaped bricks, commonly used for special parts such as blast furnaces and hot blast stoves.

Half brick / Quarter brick

The thickness is reduced by half or a quarter, used for local repair or special structures.

III. Other Classifications

Classified by density:

High-density bricks feature high strength but low thermal shock resistance, while low-density bricks possess excellent thermal insulation performance.

Classified by function:

Such as acid-resistant bricks, insulating bricks, etc., which shall be selected according to specific working conditions.

Clay refractory bricks are known as the "evergreen tree" among refractory materials due to their low cost and wide adaptability. The specific selection shall be based on temperature, chemical environment and mechanical strength requirements.
