Magnesia-chrome castable is an alkaline monolithic (unshaped) refractory. It is batched from fused or sintered magnesia and chromite / magnesia-chrome spinel as aggregate and fines, bound with a phosphate or composite micro-powder binder system, with a water reducer and a stabiliser.
It is supplied dry. On site it is mixed with a measured amount of water (5.0 – 7.5% depending on grade), poured or vibrated into place, cured, dried, and then sintered in service.
At temperature the matrix forms stable periclase – magnesia-chrome spinel. That is what carries the product in zones
