Magnesia Chrome Brick

Magnesia chrome bricks are basic refractory products made mainly from magnesium oxide and chrome ore, with periclase and magnesiochromite spinel as the principal crystalline phases. They perform well at high temperatures, resist alkaline slag attack, and maintain good thermal shock stability — which explains their long-standing use as lining materials in cement rotary kilns, non-ferrous smelting furnaces, and molten steel refining equipment.

How to Evaluate the Quality of Magnesia Chrome Bricks

1. Weigh the brick.

For bricks of the same size, a heavier brick means higher bulk density — and generally better quality.

2. Listen to the sound.

Tap the brick and listen closely. A crisp, resonant ring signals a well-sintered, premium brick. A hollow or muffled tone points to excessive porosity and poor quality.

3. Look at the fracture surface.

Break a brick and check the cross-section. A good brick shows uniform, tightly packed aggregate with no visible voids or loose grains.

4. Inspect the overall appearance.

Edges and corners should be intact — no chipping, no cracks. The color should be even, with no white spots or patches.

5. Feel the surface.

Run your hand over the brick. It should be smooth and flat, free of peeling, bulges, or clusters of honeycomb-like pinholes.

6. Check the high-temperature linear change.

Bricks that shrink or expand only minimally at service temperature are far less likely to crack or spall inside the kiln.

Features of Magnesia Chrome Bricks

 High-Temperature Resistance

High refractoriness under load, withstanding continuous service above 1500°C.

Stable structure with low high-temperature creep — no bulging or deformation under prolonged heat.

Excellent Resistance to Clinker and Alkaline Slag

Chemically stable, with minimal reaction to molten materials.

Ideal for the burning zone of cement kilns, holding up well against clinker and alkaline slag attack.

Superior Thermal Shock and Spalling Resistance

Holds its structural integrity through repeated kiln heating and cooling cycles.

Effectively resists spalling and cracking driven by thermal stress.
