Ramming Mass - Overview
Ramming mass is a refractory material, typically a dense, moldable mixture of aggregates, binders, and additives, used to line the interiors of high-temperature industrial furnaces, particularly induction and electric arc furnaces. It gets its name from the installation method: it's compacted (rammed) into place to form a durable, heat-resistant lining.

Types of Ramming Mass
The main raw material of silica ramming material is silica. Silica is the general name for vein quartz, quartzite, and quartz sandstone. Mainly used in acid refractory bricks for the metallurgical industry. Pure silica can be made into quartz glass or refined single-crystal silicon. In the chemical industry, it is used to prepare silicon compounds and silicates, and can also be used as a filling in sulfuric acid towers.
Corundum ramming material is a bulk material made of corundum, silicon carbide, graphite, and electrically calcined anthracite as raw materials, mixed with a variety of ultrafine powder additives, and fused cement or composite resin as a binding agent. It is used to fill the gap between the furnace cooling equipment and the masonry or the filling material for the masonry leveling layer.

The medium-frequency induction furnace has an induction coil made of copper tubes wound around the outside of the furnace. The metal charge is placed in the furnace. When the alternating current passes through the induction coil, an alternating magnetic flux is generated in the coil. Through the closed metal charge, the furnace charge An induced current is generated within a certain depth on the surface, causing the charge to heat and melt.

Steel Industry

Other Applications
Beyond metals, our ramming mass finds applications in various high-temperature processes, including cement production, glass manufacturing, and waste incineration. Their ability to withstand harsh conditions and provide insulation makes them suitable for lining kilns, furnaces, and reactors in these industries.

The various grains fractions are stored in bulk silos. Then the batching plant prepares a batch which consists of a mix of various grain fractions along with the requisite percentage of BORIC ACID as per the desired recipe. This batch is then mixed to a uniform consistency and packed in bags. The installed capacity of our crushing, sizing, and mixing plant is 200,000 MT per annum.
BORIC ACID is introduced in the ramming mass to provide adequate sintering without a marked
reduction in the refractoriness of the ramming mass. The production process of ramming mass involves the addition of 0.2 to 5.0% of Boric Acid, which enables the sintering of the crucible lining. Boric acid starts melting at 171 °C and separates to Boric oxide and water. This Boric oxide further reacts with the SiO2 in the Ramming mass at 440 °C and forming a borosilicate melt. This small percentage of melt formed binds the loose grains in the lining giving it strength. This is the mechanism of formation of a dense contact layer with molten metal and slag, which prevents the penetration of liquid metal into the lining and slows down impregnation of crucible material.
