Alumina Silicon Carbide Carbon Brick (ASC Brick, \(\boldsymbol{Al_2O_3-SiC-C}\) brick) It is a shaped unburned refractory product, manufactured with special-grade bauxite clinker / corundum sand, silicon carbide and flake graphite as main raw materials, bonded by phenolic resin, high-pressure formed and low-temperature heat-treated at 200～300℃. Aluminium powder, silicon powder and other antioxidants are commonly added to improve its oxidation resistance.
Typical chemical composition: \(\boldsymbol{Al_2O_3}\) 55%～70%, \(\boldsymbol{SiC}\) 7%～15%, \(\boldsymbol{C}\) 5%～10%.
It features excellent hot metal scouring resistance, slag corrosion resistance and thermal shock stability with good spalling resistance. Graphite is non-wettable to molten iron, while SiC improves wear resistance and high-temperature strength, suitable for frequent thermal cycling of molten iron.
It is widely used for torpedo ladles (mixers), hot metal ladle linings and hot metal pre-treatment facilities, which is the mainstream refractory for molten iron transportation in steel plants.
Typical physical indexes: bulk density ≥2.70 g/cm³, cold crushing strength ≥45 MPa, apparent porosity ≤10%.
