Description
Skull Ball is spherical refractory slag stopping component. It is mainly dolomite, magnesia or lime-based refractory with steel core. Its density is between molten slag and molten steel. It is thrown into converter before tapping finishes. When the steel level drops, the ball floats to the taphole and blocks it, stopping slag outflow while steel can still flow out. It reduces slag carry-over into ladle, improves steel purity and lowers refining burden. Widely used for converter tapping process. Multiple grades are available, custom formula acceptable.
